For more than 25 years, Fellippe and Dani have lived and breathed the restaurant life, a journey that’s taken them through some of Los Angeles’ and Napa Valley’s most celebrated kitchens. Their journey as owners of Ubuntu Café began with a humble dream café by the Colorado Lagoon in Belmont Heights, Long Beach, opening on February 15, 2020, just before the world turned upside down.
What should have been the beginning of their story nearly became the end. Yet, in the heart of that storm, something extraordinary happened—the community showed up. Neighbors ordered takeout, shared words of encouragement, and helped keep the spirit of Ubuntu alive, making lifetime friends along the way
Ubuntu is a South African philosophy meaning “I am because we are” and became more than their name; it became their anchor. Through connection and kindness, their humble café made it through, and out of hardship bloomed deep friendships and a renewed sense of purpose.
Today, that same heartbeat thrives in San Juan Capistrano, where Ubuntu Café brings a California-inspired, farm-to-table experience to life. Their menu, crafted with ingredients from over 20 local farmers, tells a story of intention, seasonality, and love.
Dani leads with warmth and grace, making every guest feel like family, while Fellippe’s steady hand ensures everything runs seamlessly behind the scenes. Together, they’ve created a place that celebrates both soul, flavor, and feeling.
Under twinkling lights and coastal skies, families, friends, and furry companions gather, sharing food, laughter, and the comforting sense of belonging. Because at Ubuntu Café, you’re not just dining out. You’re coming home. Ubuntu is the only all-day restaurant in the River Street Market, opening every day for breakfast at 7am till 11:30am. Lunch from 11:30am to 3pm. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday from 4pm until 9pm.
