Stacey Fitts’ first foray into floristry started in a floral design class in her junior year of high school. Years later, she worked on a flower job with her mother-in-law and quickly realized she had found her calling. For more than two decades, she ran a successful floral events company called Floral Occasions. A 25-year resident of San Juan, when Stacey first heard the buzz regarding the development of River Street Marketplace, she realized her “too-good-to-be-true” dream of owning a flower shop right in her own backyard could finally come to fruition.
Pick Me Flower Boutique, located in the breezeway of the Mercantile building, opened its doors on November 1, 2024. The boutique is truly a family affair. It all started with the name: Stacey’s son-in-law, Shea, came up with the catchy moniker, which the whole family loved—and customers do, too. Stacey beams, “We get compliments on the name all the time. It’s fun and whimsical, like me!”
Stacey’s husband, David, is a general contractor, so alongside their son, Isaiah, the family designed the shop together. And her daughter, Sydnee, runs social media, handles website design, and assists with community events and sourcing retail items. From the painted signage by her sister-in-law, Marcie, to the careful flower prep by Aunt Jan, every detail carries a family touch. Stacey acknowledges that Pick Me also has a talented team of gals who love working with flowers and are all very knowledgeable, approachable, and eager to help in any way.
Pick Me’s style is organic, textured, and unique. In fact, every petal, stem, and specialty gift in the shop has been carefully curated by the owner herself. Stacey’s favorite part of her job is driving down our sparkling coastline to Carlsbad each Monday to the San Diego Floral Trade Center to hand-select all the stunning flowers, greenery, vases, and retail items. Passersby can’t help but compliment the boutique’s charm and attention to all the fine details. Stacey reflects, “Customers often say, ‘I’ve never seen a flower like that before!’ or ‘Wow, those colors of roses are so unique.’ This feedback is one of the reasons I absolutely love my job and our community.”
Open seven days a week from 11am to 7pm, Stacey and her hand-picked friendly crew are waiting to create the perfect arrangement and brighten the days of their San Juan neighbors…one bloom at a time.
