It was the kind of ending that makes kids legends and parents leap three feet off the bleachers. The spring 2025 season of San Juan Capistrano Little League delivered high drama, heart, and just the right dose of dust—nowhere more so than in the climactic AA Angels vs. Braves championship showdown, which ended in a walk-off home run that had the whole park buzzing.
Among the standout performances this season, Jackson Dennis and Spencer Lunnen of the AA Angels emerged as pivotal players in the league’s most talked-about game, with Jackson striking out six batters in two innings, and Spencer sealing the win with an impressive home run! The AA Angels were helmed by Head Coach Ben Bonfoey, incoming SJCLL Treasurer, who, along with a roster of assistant coaches, led the team with a level of care and consistency that left a mark on players and parents alike. The Angels competed against many other talented teams throughout the season, creating life lessons and unforgettable experiences for all players across the League.
SJCLL is thriving under the fresh leadership of new President Eric Qualls, who is bringing a renewed energy and enthusiasm and, along with Kristen Dennis, newly minted Director of Fundraising and Sponsorships, a strong community lens to the program. With plans underway for expanded clinics, increased outreach, and more inclusive events, San Juan Capistrano Little League is evolving while staying true to its roots.
Scroll through the SJCLL social feeds and you’ll see it: snapshots of joy, hustle, and camaraderie—young athletes grinning through grass-stained jerseys, high-fiving teammates, and stretching their wings on sun-drenched diamonds across Esencia Sports Park, Old Majors, and San Juan Sports Park.
But it’s not just the big plays that stick with you. It’s the quieter victories—the first clean hit, the hard-earned strikeout, the rallying huddle on a tough day. These are the moments that shape not just players, but people.
That final photo—Angels lifting their trophy, eyes shining, dirt on their knees—is more than a capstone to a great season; it’s a living snapshot of what community baseball does best: bring people together, spark joy in the unexpected, and remind us that magic can happen right at home plate.
