Ireland Swenson

A New Era for Equestrian Excellence

By Sidney Swenson

At just 28 years old, Ireland Swenson is redefining what it means to be a top-level hunter/jumper trainer. As the owner and head trainer of Sorella Farm—based at Rancho Sierra Vista Equestrian Center in San Juan Capistrano—Swenson represents the next generation of elite professionals shaping the sport from the ground up.

A lifelong equestrian who began riding at age 5, Ireland developed under the mentorship of top-level professionals before taking over the iconic program of John Berney, one of San Juan Capistrano’s most respected horsemen. Since taking the reins, she’s built Sorella Farm into a boutique, competitive program known for high-caliber horses, meticulous care, and a sharp focus on developing top junior and amateur riders.

“My goal is to elevate every detail,” says Ireland. “The horse care, the riding, the management—everything matters. We treat every horse like it’s headed to the ring at Devon or indoors.”

With clients currently leading national point standings in major equitation medals, Ireland’s vision is quickly making waves across the West Coast. But it’s not just results that define Sorella—it’s the environment.

“I want to create a program where riders grow into confident, competitive horsewomen,” she says. “Where families feel supported, and horses thrive.”

Female-founded and fiercely passionate, Sorella Farm is more than just a training barn—it’s a movement. As Ireland continues to climb the ranks of America’s top young professionals, her impact on the next wave of equestrian sport is undeniable.

“I’ve been in the saddle nearly my whole life,” Ireland adds, “but I truly feel like this is just the beginning.”
