Lucia and Stella Rogers

High Fives and a Whole Lot of Hustle

By Si Si Penaloza

In the sun-soaked hills of Rancho Mission Viejo, where lemonade stands meet epic sibling rivalries, live two powerhouse sisters: Lucia and Stella Rogers. Eleven and 7, respectively, they’re cleat-wearing dynamos with big dreams, bruised knees, and enough energy to power a small town.

Lucia, the big sister with a mean right foot and a comeback story worthy of an after-school special, started soccer in 2nd grade and never looked back. She’s a striker who sees the goal and goes full Ted Lasso. After a tough summer knee injury, she spent five months in physical therapy—two hours a week, every week—channeling her inner warrior princess. Now she’s back, stronger than ever, ready to bury goals like they’re treasure on a pirate map.

Stella, the younger but no less fierce half of this dynamic duo, started soccer in kindergarten and instantly claimed the goal box as her kingdom. She’s bold, fearless, and dives for saves like she’s auditioning for a Marvel stunt role. She’s her team’s goalie, the giggliest on the field, and isn’t afraid to let you know when a shot is not getting past her.

Together, they rep CFA—California Football Academy out of San Clemente—a club team they both love deeply. From weekend tournaments to TikTok-worthy team chants, they live for the thrill, the competition, and the friendships that come from huddles and high-fives.

But wait—there’s more! Under Friday night lights, they trade shin guards for flags and become Bengals in the Matt Leinart Flag Football league, with none other than their dad, Coach Tim, at the helm. Lucia’s “Big Bengals” just clinched the championship, while Stella’s “Little Bengals” came runner-up in their first ever season. Coach Dad brings the plays; the girls bring the sparkle (and the touchdowns).

At Esencia K-8, they’re students. At home, they’re sisters. But on the field—any field—they’re superheroes in cleats. Heart? Huge. Hustle? Nonstop. Hair in ponytails, eyes on the prize.

The Rogers sisters light up the field—one goal, one save, and one Friday night win at a time.
