Nurturing Capable, Confident, and Curious Little Learners

By Thomas Fitzgerald

Our goal is to help each child feel empowered to say, ‘I can do it myself,’” Stacey says. “When children feel capable and confident, their love of learning naturally grows—and that love lasts a lifetime.

In a sunlit corner of San Juan Capistrano, a bright new chapter in early childhood education is unfolding. Sunshine Montessori, established in July 2024, brings with it a strong foundation in the Montessori philosophy, thoughtful leadership, and a vibrant, newly remodeled learning space designed to inspire.

Led by longtime educator and mother Stacey Constantian, Sunshine Montessori offers a joyful and intentional journey of learning, independence, and discovery for children ages 18 months to 6 years. Classrooms are filled with beautifully curated Montessori materials, encouraging children to explore freely, think critically, and build confidence in their abilities.

“Our goal is to help each child feel empowered to say, ‘I can do it myself,’” Stacey says. “When children feel capable and confident, their love of learning naturally grows—and that love lasts a lifetime.”

What Sets Sunshine Montessori Apart

Sunshine Montessori offers a thoughtfully balanced program that blends academic development with emotional growth and real-world skills. Each week, children enjoy:

  • Open-ended, artist-inspired art lessons twice a week.
  • Classroom learning using authentic Montessori materials.
  • Daily outdoor exploration and play in two safe, spacious yards.

Every Friday, students participate in hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) projects that connect with the monthly unit of study. “We always include art in our STEAM work,” Stacey explains. “Creativity is key to problem-solving, and children learn best through doing.”

Environments Tailored for Growth

  • Toddler Room (18 months–3 years):

A nurturing, carefully prepared space that supports toddlers in building trust, independence, and early communication. Children are guided with patience and respect as they explore, move, and learn to express themselves.

  • Preschool Room (3–6 years):

Organized into core Montessori curriculum areas including Language, Math, Practical Life, Sensory Work, and Culture (science, geography, music, and more). Children move at their own pace from simpler activities to more complex challenges, developing critical thinking, coordination, and confidence.

Meet the Owner: A Personal Mission

Stacey Constantian’s path to Montessori began with a personal challenge. When her eldest daughter—already reading well above grade level—was asked to leave a traditional preschool that couldn’t meet her needs, Stacey began a search for a better fit. She found it in the Montessori approach.

“Montessori was a lifeline,” says Stacey. “It gave my daughter—and later all seven of my children—the space to thrive.”

A Michigan native who grew up near Chicago, Stacey holds degrees in English and Science, including a Master’s in English from San Diego State University and an Early Childhood Technology Certificate from Tufts University. In 2015, she founded Kensington Montessori in Laguna Niguel, and in 2024, she opened Sunshine Montessori in San Juan Capistrano.

What brings her the most joy? “Watching children grow more confident every day, and seeing families walk in smiling, knowing their child is in a place where they are truly seen and celebrated.”

At Sunshine Montessori, your child’s potential isn’t just nurtured—it’s honored.
